Simon Balle - 50 years old this year!
I went to Simon Balle in the 80's and I recently contacted the school as there was a suggestion that they may hold an open weekend for everyone, ex-pupils, current pupils and future pupils and family alike. The Head told me that there were no plans to hold an event as this was dealt with by the PTA and that they were looking at putting on a small event for the current pupil intake only. Am I the only one who finds this a bit strange? I remember Sundays in the Summer when the Simon Balle School fete was swamped with people, generating a few pounds for good causes and bringing the community together. What do you think?

An ex-another pupil (1983-90), I sure do remember these events. They were vast - covering the whole field. I don't personal remember what they raised, but as you say James007 it must have been a fair whack. Seems a bit short-sighted not to cash in on the 50th. I for one would welcome the chance to go back for a nose around!

I am logged on to FR but there is nothing to see.
I just feel that they have a duty to run a day or two for the ex-pupils and even future pupils. Mr Chapman was the best teacher I had.
By the way - the Geordie told me I would end up sweeping floors for a living - he was close, but not that close!
Mrs Rodgers - now there's a name from the past!

I recall phoning the school two/three years ago to see if they did any type of xmas/summer events but was told no. I too would love to go back and have a bit of a nose around the old place - expect it has changed a hell of a lot (I left in 1976). I recall Mr Chapman - rather large and rather smelly (hope he's not reading!) in my day. Perhaps he washed a bit more in later years! Good teacher though.

I dont think simon balle can ever be bothered to organise anything really. the certanly didnt in my day think they must have stoped bothereing in the 90s

It is a real shame Gemma. I left in 1986 and for every year I was there the school held two events every year - a Summer fete and a Christmas night and all the kids, parents and teachers got involved.
I have been told that by the headmistress that this year the only event to mark 50 years will be some songs played by the pupils of the music department. Wonderful...
