Mercury staff to strike?
Has anyone seen what's happening at the Mercury?
Looks like they're about to go on strike against job cuts ...

It's simple - new editor, change of format in the paper, move towards tabloid journalism, restructure of pay. The staff don't want change. The paper was fine as it was.

Personally, I think the Mercury is more like a parish magazine.... but less interesting.

The 'holdthefrontpage' story sounds like the proposed changes won't be any better for the readers than they are for the staff. Sharing more staff across the newspaper titles will no doubt mean there is more use of the same stories in the different papers, meaning less truly local news
For such a long-established local paper, it's pretty sad how far and fast the Mercury has gone down-hill over the past couple of years or so.
