hole in the road
While in Hertford today a lady tripped and fell at the top of bull plain, near accessorize. She was crossing the road, and tripped over a 'hole' where there is a missing brick. She's the second person I've seen trip in that exact spot (unless it's me and I'm jinxed!)
Who do I report it to? (the missing brick that is, not that I'm jinxed)
I've looked on east herts website but can't seem to see anything useful.

Thought exactly the same walking past the Shar/Blockbuster's yesterday. Did the same outside ID a little while ago. If we have the 'Quaint' pavements we should at least be able to walk on them safely.

can you list the exact places of these paving defects so that i can investigate, injure myself and get some money to pay for my new kitchen.....

I have a folder at work with pages and pages of broken pavements etc. But for starters try Bircherley Green; the bit from the gates up to Thorntons/Birthdays. The other side is managed by Savilles and the site manager takes great pride in keeping it extremely well maitained; apart from the bits that are under the control of East Herts.

The laugh about Bircherley Green is that there was a report in the paper about EHDC blaming the damage being caused by 'irrssponsible car drivers' parking there.
Which is fine, but yer typical car weighs about 1-1.5 tonnes.
Yer typical market trader's van, which also parks there, weighs about 2.5-3.5 tonnes. Similarly, over four wheels.
Can anyone else see the flaw in their argument?
Of course, if they used the parking fines to repair the alleged damage...

To the average type person this would seem perfectly reasonable but as that part of Bircherley Green is under the management of Hertfordshire Highways who do a weekly check and a monthly repair schedule it is not possible for East Herts who collect the fines to repair the damage as income from fines can be only be used on traffic management issues.
Now you may want to argue that this is exactly what fines should be for but this is not how it works. Besides which income from fines is well below expenditure on the contract so ...[:D]
As for the market traders they do more about resolving the problem than most such as placing boards over the holes, reporting damage and removing bricks that could easily be launched at shop windows.
If only life were so simple![:o)]
