Sourcing Local Produce

After some posts on the Farrow&Farrow thread and the goose request, I wondered if this was a good idea for one? Keep it in one place and maybe give ideas as well. I was thinking just edible produce but maybe other goods as well, or perhaps another thread for those? So, I'll kick off with a request for locally grown fruit/vegetable stalls that have regular pitches.

Great thread idea Skanky though I'm about to divert from the Veg..[:D] We're desperate for a good pate. The Wild Boar man that used to go to the local farmer's markets was all lined up to supply us before a significant change in his life which closed that lead forever. Anyone know of a really good, not-mucked-about-with pate, perferably from Hertfordshire? Preferably from a small producer.

Try ringing Carol Skidmore who is the Project Manager for Grown in Herts Project at District - 531609. She has a wide database of producers many of whom we have been unable to use on Farmers Market owing to lack of space.

Thanks - was driving myself round the bend trying to work out what my fantastic dripping was - Wild Boar!!!! Remember dripping on toast around the fire............ Victor, that sounds fantastic. Fancy an off-forum chat about this prospect via email? Sloop - you're a star, will try to phone her when the boss is out to lunch (not mentally, though there's some debate about this...)

Much of the fresh produce at Pearce's farm shop on the A10 just north of Puckeridge is sourced locally in season.

It looks like my sense of humor may have got me into a stick predicament. Yes I do make my own, but only ikkle pots. It is something I would love to do, but with a full time job, the rugby club and an 8 month old maybe a cottage industry is a little too much. How much would you require on a weekly basis, just out of interest?

Well there's nothing like being busy and there's no way of knowing how much will go in the first few weeks. If the pots are individual, then I'd opt for an initial order of 4-5 pots. I would stress, however, that you may need to get your kitchen "approved" for this to go ahead. From chats I've had with people who have managed this the basic rules - apart from the ability for cleanliness - appear to be: no kids in the kitchen when cooking & no pets. Does this let you off the hook?[;)]

Which reminds me, has anyone used the fram stall on the B158 towards Ware? I keep meaning to go there, but only ever see it at inopportune moments.

Hi foodman, the shop email address is on my profile and I have selected the option that allows forum members to send me emails. Admin has been rapping a few knuckles about leaving email addresses/contact details on threads recently (probably due to creating an open invitation for spammers). If you get stuck, let me know & I will ask the Forum Gods to give me a hand in contacting you!

I've started using that stall regularly since I now get back from work in the afternoon rather than evening - I definitely recommend it. The guy has a great selection of veg and can tell you where it's all from (assuming you can understand a word he is saying [:D]). Pretty cheap as well, last time I was there I bought 6 spuds, a broccoli, 4 leeks, a cauli and a bag of sprouts for £2.20. Not sure how this compares with supermarket prices for veg as I haven't bought supermarket veg for ages, but it seems pretty reasonable to me. He also does rabbit, pigeon, pheasant, partrige etc.

Is Reg the Veg back?? Last time I went up there he was in hospital. My prior visit was amazing. He didn't have enough change and told me to owe him a pound for two iceberg lettuces. Must go back and pay him.

I don't know his name, but I can definitely imagine him being called Reg the Veg!
