Community Midwives
Question really: does anyone know of a local community midwife in Hertford? or do I HAVE to go through the GP and WAIT for them to contact the hospital to get in contact with me?

I think you can get them by calling the delivery suite at the QE2 or try the local county hospital - Friday morning (I think) they have a drop-in clinic there.

There is a MW based at GP practice who usually run a clinic once a week. Wallace House is on a Monday. IF not phone Hertford County and ask to be put through to the antenatal clinic.
Ohh and also they are based at Bowling Road Clinic in Ware.

Just out of interest are you allowed to give birth at home anymore. They had just stopped the practice before I gave birth to my Son (at home) as the battleaxe midmife informed me. Bit late at that point, I was there [^] and so was he [:D]

yes you are... i'm planning on a home birth in the next few days!!! (keep your fingers crossed for me!). drop in clinic at hertford county hosp on friday afternoons is your best bet to see a midwife. otherwise, book in at hanscombe house also on fri afternoon, but you need an appointment.

Have checked and yes the delivery suite at QE2 can put you through - we did that but were still registered with them.
Good luck with the home birth, a friend of ours recently did that.

Did you know there are plans to shut the maternity unit at QEII despite the fact that the new Hatfield Hospital isn't due to open until 2013 (if ever).

To be honest, wouldnt be a bad thing. The maternity ward is the most depressing place ever, i couldnt wait to get home after having a c-section. Labour and Delivery on the other hand are fantastic!
