I recall Castle Hall were going to install seating that may allow for cinema use for the venue. Is this going ahead? Is there an appetite for this?

on a recent visit to castle hall I was told that the new seating would be in place by the spring. as for cinema use perhaps it will be a case of 'build it and they will come'?

I would enjoy seeing films at Castle Hall even if it were a few weeks late as at Broxbourne and Campus West. I find both of these venues just a little bit too far away to be bothered, but Castle Hall would be great.[^]

I believe the racked seating will be in around April 2006. But again as its been on the cards since about 1980.. we shall see !!!

They should do something, because Castle Hall is very 'underused'.

To be honest, I would never go to the hall to seea film. The sound and picture would be terrible. Let alone temp seating. I agree it needs a new lease of life, but the UCI galleria is up the road, with art and fringe films in the afternoon, as well as blockbusters. Play to the strengths. It should carry on for drama, but add more live music and private functions. Also, refurb the bar and open it as a pub. It could make money from the general public as well as show goers.

Wasnt there a Cinema called The Castle Cinema years ago? (At the end of Maidenhead Street) I remember watching Bonnie and Clyde there for 2/6 ! I was under age, it was an 'X' expat steve

Is that the existing pillar in the bottom left? And is that really 1965? In some ways it appears older but it also seems to show a lot more traffic than I would expect.

Great photo; and outside, the bus stop for the 393, which took me and my sister home to Hertingfordbury at the end of the flic! BTW, we all SMOKED, in those days; one side was smoking the other non-smoking! The ashtrays were in the back of the seat infront!
