Can you elaborate? Haven't been in Shah for ages, probably not since the refurb. Keep meaning too - sounds like it's worth it. Are the prices reasonable?

A curry is no longer a resonable night out, unless you can stick by your guns to the good old fashioned favorites such as the Bhuna and the Madras and share a rice. Last night we all had large Cobra beers 7 popadoms a main each, King Prawn and Chicken Shaslic, Chicken Tikka Dhansak, Duck somthing or other madras hot, 2 rices, 2 side dishes, Aloo Gobi and Sag Panir and 2 nans. Very good service, no smoke in the non smoking section, £70 for 3.

would you say this place does the best curry in hertford? What are their take aways like? I have to admit a massive favouritism for Tikka Cottage since I've lived in Hertford, but I've never tried Shahenshah. I wont be interested in trying it either unless they do large bottles of Kingfisher or Cobra!

Personally if I am in the town center and I want a curry thats where I will go, it may have something to do with how long I have know Mia, but I cant remember having a bad meal in there. The Raj on Ware road is also very good, but I would only go there if I was only going out for a meal. With regards to take aways, I stopped using The Shahensha, as I always seemed to plump for one of their specials and ended up paying far too much for a quick take away. I now use the delivery service which is next to Mick's barbers. They are very good, they deliver and the prices are excellent. Lastly, yes, the Shahensha does big bottles of Cobra and Kingfisher plus Stella on tap. Give it a try!

Have to agree with Victor (?!)- have used them since they opened & almost always damned good. Will pick up a menu from the delivery place - had woondered what it was like.... Raj v good too & a friend gets his Friday takaway from there each week & swears by it. One I havn't used for ages is the Hot House; had some v good & some dodgy meals in there over the years - any recent reviews?

Why is this in the Bars and Pubs section and not in the restaurant section?

Shah has always been my favourite too and seems to be better now than ever. I've tried the others but only the Raj comes close. That's a longer walk home so it's not an option! We use the Bismillah for deliveries.

Okay, thanks. There have been a few others mentioned so thought it worth checking (esp. as I thought the previous toilet reference was to the Hot House and I've not noticed the Shah being smokey before - depends where you sit, I guess). [:)]

I won't go back to the Shah anymore. I went twice earlier this year, both times I got a terribly rushed service with prices that have gone through the roof. I wouldn't go back there anyway once I found out what goes on upstairs.
