Hope I've spelt this correctly. Following our dissapointing visit to the Merchant House we visited this Thai restaurant in St Andrews Street. Fabulous food, exceptional service and prices to put a smile on your face[:D] We will make this a regular destination.

I agree the food was really nice when we last went, all be it a bit pricey. Can't remember too much about it so i'm assuming the wine was preety good too! [:D]

It is very good. A while ago we went as a party of 6 and left a bit hungry despite the eye-brow raising size of the bill. The food is very good, though, as is the service. Seating's a bit tight in the back room so go for the front if you can.

Yup, this is one of our favourite places. Great service, good food as already stated. However they have never once remembered a booking we've made (although this has never mattered)! [:D]

We go here for lunch sometimes when we are both working from home, and it's excellent value with great service. Both the pad thai and green curry are great, and cheap on the lunch menu.

Went the other day - our first visit for quite a long time. My view is similar to that of other reviewers - excellent food, but questionable value. Bill for four of us was well over £100 and we didn't all have three courses. Service, ok but a little over-attentive for my liking.

Well, to put Hertford Thai Restaurant prices into perspective. At the begining of December I had a Thai student staying with me. He had just finished a college course and couldn't get back to Thailand because of the protest at Suvarnbhumi & Don Muang airports at Bangkok. He was a bit depressed, so took him and a friend of mine to the Blue Elephant Thai restaurant in Fulham. The restaurant itself is quite amazing,however the service left a lot to be desired. Having ordered two Singha beers and an orange juice,we were told they didn't have Singha (which is almost the national beer of Thailand). We chose another beer. They arrived after about 5 mins, but no sign of the orange juice. Had to call the manager over to point out that it hadn't arrived as I couldn't get the attention of the waiter. We had one of their set meals and only one other beer each. The bill came to over £155. The food was quite mediocre. So £100 for four ain't too bad! Having visited Thailand and been cooked for by Thai's in their own homes,and in several restaurants, most Thai restaurants in this country don't really hit the mark, and I tend to cook Thai at home.

Hmm, I have also been to the Blue Elephant but it was many years ago and I wasn't paying the bill! However, I think the prices at the Hertford place should surely be taken in the context of other Hertford restaurants. Of course price is only one consideration. Next time, we'll come round to the buzz thitaya....

Myself and Mr J enjoy going to Baan Thitaya and always enjoy the food but agree it is a little on the pricey side for Hertford. Also sometimes the meal can seem a little rushed with courses coming out very quickly.

I agree with all the posts. Great food, good service but slightly more expensive than I would like. I think its a great restaurant although we were there last week and the chicken seems to have been replaced with that cheap stuff you get in some nasty chinese restaurants, rubbery and watery, but usually it is really nice there!

Went here again last night, and as usual it was absolutely fantastic. Lovely food, great service. In mine and husband's view, this is the best restaurant in Hertford. We also went to a Thai restaurant with friends tonight in the East End, just off Brick Lane. It was about the same price as Baan Thitiya, but was nowhere near as good. I feel really lucky to have such a great local place to eat. Now we just need more restaurants of a similar standard!

Haven't been here for a while. I used to absolutely love it but found that the portions seemed to keep shrinking. Although the food and service was always excellent, I thought they'd shrunk a bit too much.. It'd be great if this wasn't the case anymore as I'd definitely go back..

We noticed the small portions too. I know that Thai food is supposed to be quite light but when we visit Thailand, which is every year, we eat great food and are always full afterwards. We always miss Thai food again when we get back but Baan Thitya and the small portions [and still feeling hungry afterwards] means we did not go back after our first visit. We could really do with a brilliant Thai restaurant that doesn't leave you feeling hungry in Hertford.

Just got back from Thailand. Have a friend who lives there and has found some brilliant little restaurants. If you are ever in Pattaya try Rin's Kitchen. No European food. Absolutely authentic Thai...........and a meal for two with drinks will set you back less than a tenner! Can Hertford provide the same please!

I'm glad 2 other people have noticed Baan Thitaya's titchy portions. I had thought I was just a greedy pig for feeling short-changed at spending £50 on a meal for 2 and coming out hungry. That was 2 years ago, I haven't been since.

I really hope that they reverse the trend of small portions. We thought the quality of the food was lovely, but don't like the feeling of being ripped off. It was 3 years ago when we went and noticed it. If I fancy Thai food now I just always cook it at home.

Decided to give this place a try again last night. The portions are still tiny but now the service is crap - one starter appeared 5 minutes before the other and we had to ask twice for more drinks - the food was cold and the bowls were chipped. One to avoid, IMO.

Hi, we go about once a month/every 6 weeks for the lunch special or evening meal, and we are planning on taking in laws next time they stay with us, i would not risk taking my mother in law unless i was 100% confident of the food! i have always enjoyed the presentation and taste. we usually go for 2 or 3 courses and find the portion size fine.

Another quick visit for the express lunch today and once again we left very satisfied. Seafood on crispy noodles for under £7 and my beef dish with rice was under £6. I was surprised to not see more people in there.
