The second of four scheduled rail strikes started just after midnight.
The stoppage by members of the RMT and ASLEF unions will last for two days and all services out of Hertford East station have been suspended until Saturday. Next week, a third union - the TSSA, will join the strikes.
Talks to settle the dispute have so far failed to produce an agreement. Further discussion are to take place on Monday.
