There are eleven churches in Hertford, ranging from the Norman St.Leonard's to the modern Methodist Church.

Some churches have been lost, including St.Mary's (Old Cross), St.Nicholas (Maidenhead Street), Christ Church (Port Vale), Christ's Hospital chapel (Ware Road), Port Vale Chapel and the Priory Church of St.John's.
