Tories Retain Council
The Conservative Party have retained control of Hertfordshire County Council following the local election on Thursday 7th June 2001.
The makeup of the new council is as follows:-
- Conservative 40
- Labour 26
- Liberal Democrat 10

Background
Hertfordshire County Council elections took place on Thursday 7th June 2001, with 77 seats being contested by 258 candidates.
The ruling Conservative administration, led by Robert Ellis, had a four seat majority in the previous administration. Until 1999 the council was controlled by a Labour/LibDem coalition, which fell following a by-election.
