Election 2001:
Prisk To Fight Development
Conservative candidate Mark Prisk says he will fight against development of green belt land in the region.
Overdevelopment in the constituency and surrounding areas is one of the key issues concerning Mr.Prisk, who lives in Much Hadham. Plans for 5000 new homes to the west of Stevenage and the establishment of a possible new town to the north of Harlow threaten the countryside, according to a new leaflet being distributed by local Conservatives.
Police numbers and increasing crime are also highlighted in the leaflet, pointing to a 12% increase in violent crime and a shortage of 90 officers in Hertfordshire. Mr.Prisk advocates improving local police allowances, tougher sentences for drug and sex offenders and an end to the early release scheme.
