Any pointers on how to dispose of an old sofa (not suitable for re-use)?

I know that East Herts Council will collect and dispose of certain items (for a fee) but not sure if sofas are amongst them. Worth giving them a call. Or put in the front garden with a price tag on it. Someone will nick it.

The urban myth is that if you put it in your front garden with a sign saying "Free, please take" it will stay there for months. If you put a sign saying "For Sale £50" it will be gone overnight.
I think the refuse collectors will come and get it if they are told (and you will pay a small fee) as it is better for them than fly tipping.

Smash it up and stick the bits in other peoples bins.
