Proposed pedestrian crossing at the bottom of Port Hill

Post by Joby » Fri 25 Jul, 2014 4:48 pm

Received a letter yesterday concerning proposals for a new pedestrian crossing at the bottom of Port Hill. The letter invites feedback regarding the proposed crossing, which looks like it will be sited just below the vets.

Seems a great idea to me - that road is treacherous to cross (especially with young kids) and a crossing will provide a safe route onto Hartham Common from the west side of town. I imagine there will be some resistance from residents of Port Hill due to the inevitable loss of on-street (on-pavement more like) parking, so I'd urge anyone in favour to reply positively to the letter.

Sounds a very positive idea. Something I asked about when I lived in Bengeo, only to be told by the council that with the speed of traffic it wouldn't be safe. Now you can look at that in two ways...

Terrific idea. Should but the brakes on some of the 4x4/BMW/suped up Peugeot/moped set that take speeding down Port Hill and over the bridge as a challenge ;)
