Hertford gridlocked

Anyone know why Hertford was gridlocked yesterday evening? Traffic was backed up all the way out of town but couldn't see any reason for it....

I heard there was an accident outside Heath Mount school, over Watton way.
It was quite interesting seeing the St Andrews street traffic queue at Old Cross traffic lights stretch all the way back to the North Road cemetery. Even more interesting to see that about 50% of the people in the queue on their mobile phones.

Also a crash on the A414 Hertingfordbury Road shortly before 7pm, road was closed for a few hours.
