I'm sure you have all heard that the infamous Jade Goody is about to open a salon in Hertford. But I wonder how many noticed the job application email address of the recently advertised positions. [email protected] !!! Why would a TV production company be advertising for staff? Perhaps a new show is on the horizon to firmly place Hertford on the map. You heard it here first [;)]

That also explains why the mobile phone number is direct to Jade. I don't think we should knock it yet - Hertford will get publicity out of it, and rumour has it there's no such thing as bad publicity - just ask Gerald Ratner!!! Its going to be a mix of desperate fame seekers/rich bored plastic housewives and a variety of shallow 'characters'. Cant see it portraying Hertford and its residents in any positive way in its persuit of ratings. Lets hope it only stays on Living TV.

Living TV is surprising popular. It started out as one of those 'Lifestyle' channels, but has recently bought some of the better U.S. dramas and it's popularity has increased. C.S.I., Boston Legal, Will & Grace, and The L Word all show on Living TV. 'Jade's Salon' wont be buried on a unknown channel, there will be an audience watching this show. It's going to be totally Car Crash TV, and worth an initial watch. How long the novelty will last is anyones guess.

I'd like to see how she'd get on without any outside help (TV producers, business advisors etc). Given the media's love of "set-em-up knock-em-down" I would have thought a documentary about how Jade Goody set up a beauty salon and failed miserably would be good TV! Just imagine the trantrums, arsey customers and Jade trying to juggle the accounts.

As Steve says the whole thing is a TV show, not a business information programme on Open University Live - I understand that Granada are paying the rent for the shop and most probably a few other things as well. Not dissimilar to Channel 4 building Brookside but on a smaller scale. What happens when the series ends or Ms Goodies fame ends - another empty shop in town. Apparently there will be a resident qualified health and beauty expert to give the place credence but when JD goes off in search of other media experiences will anyone want to continue to be pampered if she isn't there. I was chatting about these things this morning and with the TV coverage following her every move, she might help swell the number of visitors/revellers into Hertford. Jade Goody drinking a pint of lager at Baroosh; Jade Goody throwing up in Salisbury Square - the opportunities are endless.

I have just bumped into said Jade outside her Ugly salon. It was absolute chaos as all her mates had parked all over Market street and a bus could not get through. The traffic was backed up forever and there was an arguement going on between the bus driver and a chav driving a black merc. I gave her a few choice words about her bring her brand of madness to the town but she was not brave enough to reply. I think she was too busy pouting into the camera crew she had with her. As a resident of the town centre I hope she shows some respect to the people of Hertford otherwise her business could be very short lived.

In todays News of the World magazine there is an interview with Jade which states that once the Salon is up and running filming will stop. The show being screened on LivingTV is the build up to the opening of the shop and will not be filmed in the same style as the Channel 4 show "The Salon" so no clients will be filmed. This can only be a good thing I think. I for one would never have used the shop if I was in danger of being filmed, but now I may give it a try! I think it will attract clients from further outside Hertford than it otherwise might and this can only be a good thing for the town.

It depends what sort of "clients" you think this type of salon will attract. I use a few of the established salons in Hertford and the whole point is there is discretion and professional courtesy, ie: I don't want intimate details of my waxing being chatted about. So why oh why does anyone think that a private salon that sometimes deals with embarrassing procedures wants "clients" filmed!!!!! It goes against the professional nature of beauty therapists and lets be honest the only thing people want is the 5 mins of fame malarkey. I wish her well, but I won't be there to have my backside plastered on Satellite TV!!! You'll be relieved to know!

No - it is the run up to the opening of the business - I think showing things about Jade, her kids, their dad, her (ex) boyfriend and everything involved in getting the business up and running. LivingTV apparently will finish filming on the day the salon is opened so it will run just like a normal business from that day onwards. It will be a normal salon other than the fact that the co-owner is a former reality tv star.

I can’t believe how hostile and misogynistic some people have been about a woman who has chosen to open a business in our town. I have never seen any of Ms Goody’s TV appearances but I know who she is, as does most of the population of the UK. She’s certainly not as attractive as most of the women who share the pages of ‘OK’ and ‘Heat’ with her but how many of us are? Are any of the contributors to this thread who felt able to imply she is a ‘minger’ very good looking? Such personal comments about a local business person seem to me to go against the spirit of the hertford.net forum rules. It seems to me that Jade Goody is a very ordinary young mum without much education or talent, who at a young age has managed to become famous, richer than virtually anyone posting on this forum and has achieved an ambition to open a beauty salon, with the financial risk taken not by herself but a TV company. The rest of us are apparently worrying about the price of petrol! So who’s the ****? I understand she was out and about in town today introducing herself to local shops and businesses. Jade Goody made a big impression in a reality TV show called Big Brother which was watched by millions. She gets loads of tabloid coverage. She’s not beautiful or clever but some people love to read about her. Is she ‘worthy’ of being famous? Well, who is? Bin Laden? Princess Anne? Robbie Williams? What on earth has worthiness got to do with it? Jade Goody is rich and famous – it’s a fact, whether or not you understand the 'hype'. That’s how come a TV company funded her to open a business in our town. It’s a bit weak to suggest we would be discussing with equal interest a beauty salon for men opened by an ugly bloke. How many of the existing nail/tanning/beauty salons in Hertford are used by blokes? Probably they all have at least a handful of male customers; I understand that the average Metrosexual requires a regular pedicure, an all over tan and a waxed back, sac and crack (although I confess that Mr Rachel has yet to be persuaded of the advantages of this level of personal grooming, possibly because my attempts to administer it at home with hot candle wax and sellotape have not met with unqualified success). Some of the beauty/nail/tanning etc salons in Hertford are probably owned by blokes. Are they ugly blokes? I don’t know and neither does anyone else, nor do we care. It is laughable to suggest that anyone would be commenting on the appearance of local business people in any other circumstances. Well said, Rachel. Jade Goody's celebrity and novelty were created by her being herself. Without Big Brother she would not be where she is now but she has taken the opportunity that this has presented to her and is making something of herself. It is commendable that she has seized the opportunity and had the drive to realise her ambition. Good luck to her!

I'm on Justin's side of the fence. Television has made "celebrities" out of people who are talentless because it is cheap. It's cheaper for them to make a series of Big Brother than a half decent drama or comedy using people with genuine talent. It's a bit like people flocking to The Hillside because they hire a cheap ignoramous as chef (obviously not you Justin [:)]). I hardly watch any television these days. It's mostly cheap tat that executives have worked out is just above the threshold where people will turn it off.

Jade Goody comes over as being ignorant and rather thick. I can't help but thinking nothing could be further from the truth. I don't watch Big Brother, but I assume she won it. She is using the money wisely, and her fame is gaining her a lot of publicity. I think she is probably a very shrewd businesswoman. Someone, who would appear to have started with so little, has really achieved so much for herself. She gives a ray of hope to us other non-beauties. I agree with everything Rachel so eloquently wrote. I would add, it is right to comment on what a person does or says, but I think it is wrong to insult the looks god gave a person.

Well, despite the fact that I'm not alone in having a laugh at her expense, I have invited her to the next Hertford Town Watch breakfast meeting as a new business in town to meet some fellow traders. And before anyone else asks, this is quite a new initiative on my part in the town so will get around to just about everybody sooner or later.

thing is, she may well have carried out the procedure correctly but it's experience at doing it that reduces the pain factor - can't imagine that Jade has a huge amount of experience as would other therapists considering her busy schedule since Big Bro. I watched the show for the first time last night. Lots of shots of Hertford and the town came out pretty well, I thought. It looked the sort of place I'd like to move to, if there was adequate parking for the shops. Jade comes across as a decent, honest, genuine sort of character as well. I've never watched Big Brother but could not understand, from the office stories etc, why people would want to keep such an ignorant, stupid, ridiculous looking person locked in a house with them. But having seen this programme, I'm glad I didn't immediately jump to a prejudiced conclusion about her. What's more, she has a wonderful smile. I hope she succeeds with her business. She deserves it.

i say thank god that someone got famous for being ugly how many people have no talent and got famous for being pretty!!! beauty is in the eye of the beholder. i for one am sick of the media telling people what to look like or whats attractive, like if you dont measure up your a failure... Jade might not be drop dead georgous but she has accomplished her dreams become famous and rich in the process... not an easy thing to do even for the pretty people of this world, so for some one of her back ground she should be applauded. theres hope for us all!!! no i havent watched the show and proberbly never will but i hope some of the young people out there take inspiration from it. Jade mentioned in one of her programmes that she didn't want no bitchy members off staff! Well I know that shes got one of the most bitchy girls working in her salon. She was also a school bully, I should know she made my last year a misery. So you can bet I wont be gong in there now I know she works there!

I watched this for the fist time last night for a sum total of about 20 minutes before wanting to scream. She is by far one of the most irritating people on television at the moment. Last night she confessed to her unfortunate business partner, that she is not really interested in make up and that surely she knew that she was not going to be committed. Perhaps that is exactly what she should be! I give it another 6 months.

but one thing to remember is that she has employed 'Carly' as the manager - she has no intention of working there full time
