If you can let me know answers to these questions, I'll help you out. When do you start your new job? Is it permanent or a contract? If it's a contract, how long? Where in zone 1 will you be working? Will you be working at the same office or travelling around London? If so, where? How many days per week will you be working? Are you happy to buy tickets online?

What a STAR! Start on March 2nd permanent job South kensington tube No travelling around except maybe after work socialising first month will be basically 8-16 monday-friday...then it gets complicated 3-4 work days a week monday to sunday working hours 08-2000hrs happy to buy tickets on line! Thankyou.....its another world to me!

For the first month you are best buying a Flexitime monthly season ticket from Hertford North to Bowes Park and a zones 1-3 travelcard. This will cost £82.60 + £116.00 = £198.60. This is the cheapest ticket combination. To give you an idea of the savings, a monthly from Hertford North to Moorgate is £211.00 and you would then need to buy a zones 1-2 travelcard at £99.10. Over £100 more expensive! Month 2 onwards is a bit tricky but I reckon you would still be better off using the Hertford to Bowes Park + Zones 1-3 monthly. If you work 16 days per month it will work out at £198.60/16 = £12.41 per day. If you bought daily tickets you would pay about £16.70 on weekdays and £11.80 at weekends. Personally I would go for the Hertford North to Bowes Park and Zones 1-3 travelcard. It gives you much more flexibility, you don't have to worry about queueing up for tickets and if you find yourself working more than 3 days a week you will be saving much more money. If you are sure that you will be working there for a year and you have £2,068 then an annual ticket reduces the cost per day further. You will need a photocard for the Hertford North to Bowes Park Season Ticket. You can get this at Hertford North (they have a photo booth there). Buy the ticket online: http://www.firstcapitalconnect.co.uk/Main.php?iCmsPageId=61 Click on Buy Season Tickets Online When you fill in your details, you will eventually be given 3 options for the Hertford North to Bowes Park ticket. Make sure you choose the Flexitime ticket. You can also buy the travelcard using the same link. The travelcard that you buy will be for zones 1-3. They will issue a paper ticket that you put through the ticket machines rather than an oyster card which you touch on the oyster card readers. There's no difference except the way that you validate your journey. Two things to note: When you are using the Hertford North to Bowes Park + Zones 1-3 travelcard you need to travel on a train that stops at Bowes Park - you don't have to get off and back on again though! I've never had any problems with travelling on trains that don't stop at Bowes Park, you find that the on-train inspectors get to know you and are only interested in people without a valid ticket. Some people believe that there are restrictions on times that you can travel using a Flexitime ticket but I've never had any problems, the gates at Hertford North have always accepted it and the inspectors have never questioned it. When you buy the ticket online it clearly states that the ticket can be used at any time. I've printed out a copy of this just in case they do question it. How would this work if just going to Moorgate each day would this flexi ticket still save me money Basically travelling return to moorgate 3 or 4 days a week - currently buy daily

Just looked this flexi ticket online and got this below - if you read it says can only travel into london between 12:00 an 02:30 First Capital Connect – 'Flexitime' First Capital Connect offers discounted season tickets if you travel at certain times. More information First Capital Connect offers discounted Season Tickets between: * New Barnet (and intermediate stations) and Welwyn Garden City, * Enfield Chase (and intermediate stations) and Hertford (North), * Enfield Town, Edmonton Green, Ponders End (and intermediate stations) and Hertford East. * Hertford (North), Watton-at-Stone and Stevenage. Tickets are valid for travel in the country-bound direction by any train on any day. On Mondays to Fridays travel in the London-bound direction is only permitted on trains timed to depart between 1200 and 0230. No restrictions apply Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Where does it say that? When I bought mine online it clearly states "No restrictions" and "This ticket can be used at any time". You can't buy a Hertford North to Moorgate flewxitime ticket. The cheapest option is still Hertford North to Bowes Park flexitime and then a zones 1-3 travelcard. £12.80 cheaper per month than a Hertford North to Moorgate ticket. Damn. Looks like FCC have found out that there was a mistake with the Flexitime tickets. Hertford North tickets now show the same restriction. I'll get back to you with revised pricing.

Well ive just gone down to Hertford North and asked the man behind the counter....very nice helpful man! I bought a ticket from HN to Bowes park then a travel card 1-3 zones (not Flexi) for £229-30 (month). He said that was the cheapest way. Does any one else have a cheaper way or shall i just stick with this?
