Here we go again ....

Never let it be said that there's nothing to do in Hertford in August. The Folly @ The Folly will be held on Sunday 8 August (that's the 8th of August), neatly sandwiched between Rock at the Castle on the 1st and The Westmill Farm Festival on the 13th/14th.

Please put it in your diary. We fully intend the party to be at least as good as last year and, once again, we'll try to involve as many Folly Island residents as want to take part.

I'll be amending the website (www.thefollyhertford.org.uk) shortly and will be in touch with the islanders and all the other "Friends" soon. Anybody who has any suggestions or offers of help and/or sponsorship are encouraged to get in touch (address on the website).

And no, I'm not going to change my name to FatF.

Thanks for that. Hopefully the organisers of other events will be able to avoid the clashes of dates which caused me to miss some of my favourites last year. Give us all another nudge as the date approaches.

The nice and good and decent and cool thing about Mr Butler is that he got in touch with me to check when my stuff was happening so we wouldn't clash - the result being that rather nicely The Folly in the Folly sits snugly between Rock at the Castle and Westmill Farm Festival (which i've moved to August to make double sure it won't be on the same day as Bramfest). Please come to all of them. The first two because they're for very good charitable causes and the third because it should be fun and if no one comes I'll be a charity cause in my own right.

As requested by Shunt, here is a nudge.

Less than four weeks to go now and it's coming together. Musicians have been booked and the sound stage organised. My loft is creaking with books for sale and the gazebos have been aired. The butcher is working overtime to make enough sausages for the barbecue and the ice cream is being chilled. The belly dancers are fine-tuning their act and the drummers are flexing their fingers (or whatever it is they do).

We are looking forward to The Folly being decorated and to the appearance of colourful narrow boats.

All we need is fine weather and lots of families ready to party.

I hope to see you all on Folly Island on Sunday 8 August, from 12 noon.

p.s. If anyone has books, plants, cakes or produce that they would like to donate for sale on the day, please get in touch. Contact details are on the website (www.thefollyhertford.org.uk).

Just over a fortnight now ...

While I'm on, does anybody know a face painter who will either donate their services for the afternoon or, at least be "cost neutral", ie charge for the face painting and pocket the proceeds?

We had a lovely face painter last year but I had to pay her.

I might be wrong - but I believe Hertford Town Council at The Castle used to have a regularly updated 'Hertford Diary' for organisers to check in advance about potential clashes of events. I think schools used it for their fetes etc..

Has anybody got any books they could donate to the book stall?

I can pick them up or they can be delivered to The Folly at The Folly on the day.

Ditto produce from your garden or allotment.

Thanks.

... and we've got a face painter who won't charge us and will donate a percentage of her proceeds. Hooray!

Well, it's the week before the party so the last press release went out, followed by a phone call to The Mercury who now had all they needed to put in a little piece of pre-publicity.

So, this morning, with bated breath I went out and bought my copy. Settling down with a nice cup of coffee I eagerly scanned the paper to see what they'd written and .....

Nothing. Absolutely zilch. Rien. Naff all.

Nice piece in The Herald though.

No surprise there, I'm afraid.

Good Luck with the event, though. Hope not too many people are away on their hols.

Slightly weary, having just finished clearing up, but just time for a quick THANK YOU EVERYBODY!!.

I'll write something a little fuller in the next day or so.

So far we have raised nearly £2,900, with more to come.
