Im sure we have all seen the chaos out on the roads today reguarding getting Petrol any one got a good story they saw or had a long wait. Was told that BP garages tanker drivers are not involved in any industrial action should it occur, So Rush Green could be a touch busy like today.

When will the panic buying in the food shops start, Might have to start a few rumors

I heard a rumour that there was panic buying at the Cornish pastie shop today as well. Can't think what might have caused that.

I can't believe why people are doing this, there isn't even a strike arranged yet ,and maybe there won't be one. By the time there might be a strike ,people would have used the fuel in their cars anyway.

Copyied this of the Guardian Website

4.40pm: Dan Milmo notes that the chances of a tanker drivers' strike affecting the Easter getaway now appear fairly remote:

Strike laws mean that if tanker drivers want to disrupt Easter they need to call strikes by 5pm tomorrow. Under the 1992 Trade Union and Labour Relations Act, trade unions must give seven days' notice before taking industrial action.

With the focus on getting talks underway with Acas, the conciliation service, a union source said the chances of Easter walkouts were increasingly unlikely. "The threat of an Easter strike is receding," said the source.

It is understood that Unite and the hauliers still have differences over the agenda for the talks although there is hope that those will be ironed out in time for sit-down talks to begin on Monday.

Pandemonium at Tesco Hatfield this morning - I gave up after 10 minutes. Queuing out of the entrance at Morrisons WGC this afternoon so did not bother as theres still 120 miles range left in my tank apparently.

At 7.30 this evening Rush Green BP was out of regular unleaded and very low on the ultimate stuff. Diesel may last to the morning.

At 6PM tonight I was in and out of Rush Green in about ten minutes - they were working hard to organise the cars and keep them off the roundabout plus they were telling motorists to fill up then move their car before paying so that the next customer could fill up and it was working really well so I congratulate them for their efforts and initiative - plus reducing the risk on the roundabout. Their drivers aren't even going on strike.

The panic buying is crazy - the drivers can't strike for another week so there is time for everybody to get a tankful. I had about 25 miles left in mine so was quite desperate for fuel - saw one guy put 5 worth in his!!!

I think people need to realise they're being taken for a ride here: Quick, lets bang up the price of fuel to well over 140p/litre for unleaded and 148p/litre for diesel while all these mugs queue for ages to top their tanks up and line our pockets and the exchequer with cash!

What I want to know is how people are managing to fill thier tanks more than usual, do they normally run on empty all the time and only put a litre in when they need it I wonder?

Just hope people don't go mad trying to store in in unsuitable containers at home and there is a major accident.

What's the betting the next thing to sell out is bottled water due to the forthcoming hose pipe ban!

Marilyn, I don't normally go to get petrol unless my warning light comes on - and then I always fill it up to the brim hence why I got caught out this week as I drove past a number of petrol stations with queues outside before really having to fill up. I know of people who just put in a few quids worth when they need it but those usually only do a few miles each week; I believe it differs on the amount of miles you do and your personal economic situation.

In the last petrol strike I went to a number of incidents where stored petrol had ignited - its not the spillage of fuel that is a problem its the fumes that leak from the unsuitable containers that are easily ignited. It is also against the law to carry or store petrol above certain limits and petrol stations must enforce this if they see people contravening these regulations - I believe it is a condition of their petroleum licence.

I really hope the petrol stations don't run out. My car in on reserve fuel and has been sitting on the drive for two weeks as I've not had the chance to get out.

The one weekend I need my car to get to a family gathering looks like i'm going to miss out. Really frustrating seeing as there is no strike.

Anyone got any jerry cans for sale?

I personally fill mine when it gets down to 1/2 that way I don't have to pay for a full tank all in one go and in theory shouldn't run out but as you say everyone is different.

As there is no date for a planned strike a lot of people will need to fill up again by then anyway!
