The possibility of Hertford having its own Police Station took another step closer today as the site of the new Police Station is confirmed and contracts exchanged.

The conditional exchange of contracts for Hertfordshire Police Authority and Hertfordshire Constabulary to acquire Solartron House, Hale Road in Hertford has been signed.

The contracts were signed last Wednesday morning (April 18) and a planning application for 'change of use' of the premises is expected to be submitted to East Herts Council early this week.

It is anticipated that a decision on the planning approval will be finalised by the end of July and if successful, Solatron House is expected to be operational as Hertford police station by January 2008.

Chief Superintendent Gary Kitching, Eastern Area Commander, said: "This is a very positive step in obtaining the new site which will hopefully become the new police station in Hertford. We continue to work closely with Hertfordshire Police Authority to obtain new facilities and a new station for the community of Hertford".

"We are optimistic that there will be a positive outcome following the application and that we can continue to deliver a high standard of policing to the communities we serve".

Ware is also set to receive an enhanced local policing service as the the Herts Police are in discussions over obtaining the use of a building in the town centre.

The Hertford and Ware Neighbourhood Policing Team and Neighbourhood officers and PCSO's would be stationed there and use it as their base.
