Town Centre Power Cut

Sign in Boots Optician's windowMuch of Hertford Town Centre is without electricity this afternoon after a fire in a sub-station ten feet beneath Castle Hall.

Worst effected is Maidenhead Street, where shops are either closed or lit by candlepower. Other areas without electricity include Railway Street, Parliament Square, The Wash and a few shops in Bircherley Green.

Waitrose in Bircherley Green have removed all chilled food from display, whilst customers at Doorsteps in Maidenhead Street enjoy their sandwiches by candlelight.

Engineers are currently on site and hope to have power restored to all parts of the town by midnight.

They have also confirmed that a short outage yesterday evening around 8pm might be connected to today's incident.
