First Speed Cameras For Hertford
The town's first speed cameras have arrived, with two installations on the Ware Road between Caxton Hill and Stansted Road.
The £40,000 cameras have been installed by Hertfordshire Highways in association with Hertfordshire Constabulary.
The speed limit on the Ware Road is 30mph. Guidelines issued by the Association of Chief Police Officers suggest that motorists should only be prosecuted if they are exceeding the speed limit by 10% plus 2mph.
The fixed penalty for speeding is currently £60 plus 3 penalty points, although the government are considering an increase
The number of people killed or seriously injured around cameras actually increased by 15% when cameras were installed in Essex, although most areas record a fall.
Less than one in ten cameras actually contain film.
