Snow Brings Chaos
Three inches of snow brought Hertford to a standstill late on Thursday afternoon.
Whilst Hertford Town Centre was deserted at 6:00pm, Gascoyne Way and connecting routes became a virtual car park as drivers struggled to find a way home.
Many companies sent staff home early, with some choosing to leave their cars at work and take the train. Those who did venture on to the roads reported journey times of up to an hour and a half from Hertford to Ware.
Friday's Hertfordshire Mercury failed to hit the streets after the local newspaper was stranded on the M11.
There was criticism of the County Council, with little evidence of gritters in the town prior to the snowfall. The local authority claimed the chaos was due to drivers diverting from motorways on to local roads thereby increasing congestion.
