Local Development Framework

The Local Development Framework (LDF) sets out how the District Council will deliver sustainable development in the district over a 15 to 20 year period. It is a collection of documents, at the heart of which are the Development Plan Documents. These comprise of the following:

  • The Core Strategy, which sets out strategic objectives, principles and broad locations for development

  • Site Allocations, which provide information about specific sites and policies

  • Development Management, which discusses the criteria based polices concerning design and amenity
The remaining documents in The Framework are the Supplementary Planning Documents and procedural documents.

More information about the Local Development Framework is available on the District Council's website here.

The First Development Framework

The Council is currently working on the first Development Plan Document - the Core Strategy that will replace the Local Plan. When adopted, the Core Strategy will set the overarching strategic principles of development and broad locations for growth to 2031. Work on the Site Allocations DPD is anticipated to begin in Winter 2010/11.

The LDF is scheduled for adoption in the Spring of 2013.

Local Plan

Strategic planning in the district is currently covered by the 2007 Local Plan which will remain in effect until the nee Development Framework can be formulated.

From 18th April 2010 some of the policies in the Local Plan will cease to have effect following a Direction by the Secretary of State under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. The remaining policies will continue to form part of the development plan until they are replaced by the new Local Development Framework.
