3Girls Back Stag
Local pop group 3Girlz have joined forces with the UK's Army Cadets and Stag FM to help the station to win the fight for the radio licence for Hertford and surrounding areas.
The trio announced on July 29th that the band has been officially adopted by the Army Cadet Forces and that the group would be backing Stag FM and its proposed anti-drugs campaign or schools in Hertfordshire.
In June, the Essex FM 2 Smart 4 Drugs Schools Roadshow Tour scooped the UK Commercial Radio Social Action Initiative Award - the radio equivalent of an Oscar - at a radio ceremony in London.
Now Stag FM, which is owned by the same company as Essex FM, has pledged to bring the roadshow to county schools if the station wins the commercial radio licence for Hertford and Stevenage.
Kitted out in combat gear, 3Girlz stole the show when they dropped in at Oasis FM in St.Albans to meet visitors and civic leaders being shown around the station by Prof. Eric Moonman, chairman of Stag FM, as an example of how a successful radio station is run.
Christine Chapman, manager of 3Girlz commented "We greatly approve of the work that Oasis FM and Essex FM have been putting into combating drug-taking in schools with their I2 Smart 4 Drugs campaign. 3Girlz are anti-drugs and we would like to see Stag FM given the opportunity to bring this campaign to schools throughout Hertfordshire. We agree that this is a fantastic way to use the power of radio to do good work in the community, particularly on the subject of drugs and schoolchildren, which is at the top of everyone's agenda at the moment".
Submissions to The Radio Authority, including comments by the public, will be accepted up until October, with a decision being announced around the end of the year.
