Traffic Management:
Fore Street To Close For 2 Weeks

Photo of signs in Fore Street warning of future worksFore Street will be closed to traffic from Monday 22nd May for two weeks.

The closure is for works to reduce the size of the build out by the HSBC bank to give priority to buses. Works will also include the relocation of lighting, signage and roadmarkings.

The CCTV column will be removed and the camera relocated to the wall of the bank.

Local businesses are unhappy at the lack of consultation, with Hertfordshire Highways admitting that retailers in Fore Street were not informed of the works. The first many knew was when yellow advance warning signs appeared in the street on Monday 8th May.

The closure is the third in the last fifteen years. The area has been plagued with poor workmanship following the implementation of the town centre enhancement scheme in 1994.
