Traffic Management:
Toucan Crossing

Town centre street signWork on a new cycle track and toucan crossing linking Castle Street and West Street starts on Monday 16th August 2004.

The work will take place on Gascoyne Way between the Hale Road roundabout and the viaduct over the River Mimram and is expected to take six weeks.

Other improvements taking place include the widening of the pavement between the Hale Road roundabout and the viaduct, landscaping improvement at the western end of Castle Street, and the construction of an island on the central reservation.

Access to Gascoyne Way from West Street will be closed during the works, which will take place between the hours of 9:30am and 4pm so as to avoid disruption to rush-hour traffic. It will also be necessary to restrict the relief road to a single lane in each direction for a period during the work.

The crossing will link two sections of Route 61, a cycleway that passes through the town.
