Town Centre Enhancement:
Public Exhibition
 | | Bus Stop In Fore Street | Proposals for Hertford town centre have gone on display at a public exhibition in The Corn Exchange in Fore Street.
The proposals are the result of consultations with both county and district councillors, local authority officials, the Chamber of Trade and Commerce, pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.
Cyclists will particularly benefit from the measures, including up to 8 new cycle parking points and off-road cycleways into the town centre, linking the Cole Green Way with the cycle path to Ware.
Two new "town centre gateways" will be introduced in Fore Street together with a new taxi rank outside the NatWest Bank. Fore Street will become a single traffic lane with only loading and unloading allowed on the south side.
Work in expected to start in early 2004 with the first phase completed in the Autumn of 2004.
