Heritage Open Day
A number of events are taking place in Hertford as part of Heritage Open Days 2005.
Hertford Town Council will be running guided tours of the Castle during their Annual Gardening Festival, which also takes place on Sunday.
Hertford Civic Society are running a guided walk in Kingsmead, the largest water meadow in Hertfordshire, looking particularly at the wildlife and effects of environment. Booking is required (Tel.01920 438088) for no more than 20 people and the walk starts near the A10 viaduct on the Ware Road.
The Friends Meeting House in Railway Street will also be open from 10am to 4:30pm. It is claimed to be the oldest, purpose built Quaker Meeting House in the world in continuous use since 1670 and is a Grade II listed building.
Hertford Town Walks with local history group guides begin at The Castle at 12 noon, 1pm, 2pm and 4pm. More information from the Tourist Information Centre.
