Hertford Funday 2011

This year's Hertford Castle Fun Day takes place on Sunday 5th June 2010 from midday to 5:00pm, with a distinct transport theme.

The main event takes place in the grounds of Hertford Castle, and the transport theme will include:

  • Model Railway exhibition in the Mill Bridge Rooms (opposite Hertford Theatre),
  • Decorated narrowboats on the River Lea alongside The Barge on Folly Island
  • The annual Classic Bus Rally, providing trips around the town on vintage buses
  • Small display of classic cars outside Hertford Theatre
  • Mountain Bike Stunt Show in the Castle grounds
  • Walk on water with “Waterwalkers” in the Castle grounds* (fee applies)

In the Castle grounds will be the ever popular Punch and Judy, kids karting, bouncy castles, traditional craft, trade and charity stalls and much, much more.

There is also a full programme of entertainment including Stagecoach Theatre Arts, Inspired Dance, The Belly Belles, Hertford Gymnastics Club, Top Hat Stage School and The Jive Swing dancers, as well as a showcase from the Hertford Music Festival.

The Friends of Hertford Castle will be providing guided tours of the Castle throughout the afternoon.

Free Discover Hertford by Bus tours will depart from outside Hertford Theatre, but places are limited so visitors are advised to book in advance at the Town & Tourist Information Centre in Market Place, or telephone 01992 584322. New for 2011, there will be Discover Ware by Bus tours too. In addition there will be free vintage bus rides out from Bircherley Green Bus Station to surrounding villages: Little Berkhamstead, Great Munden, Welwyn Garden City, Stevenage, Letchworth, Hatfield, Bishops Stortford, and Standon.

The event will raise money for the Mayor of Hertford's Appeal Fund, this year supporting HertsAid and MIND. Many other local charities will also be raising money at their own stalls.

Admission is free, with free parking nearby in St.Andrew Street car park or any of the town's other car parks.
