Funday procession 2001

This year's Hertford Funday took place on Sunday 23rd June in the town centre and in the Castle Grounds.

The highlight of the day was a walking procession led by the Funday Princesses and featuring giant puppets made by local businesses and organisations. The Parade started in Castle Street and passed through The Wash, Maidenhead Street, Railway Street and Fore Street.

Other events that took part in the town centre included a Waiter's Race, live music and a Tug-Of-War. There was also be a Duck Race from The Castle Hall to The Barge featuring 2000 ducks, whilst The Hertford Club hosted a Hog Roast and rock'n'roll band.

This year's princesses were Daisy Lewis, Rebecca Murphy and Emma Collier, who were chosen after a competition in The Hertfordshire Mercury. They rode in an open top Mercedes at the head of head of the Funday Parade.

The Carnival Puppets taking part in the parade were based on a Jubilee theme of rock'n'roll or 50s TV. Local businesses and organisations were invited to take part, with £10 courses available at The Courtyard Arts Centre in Hertford and the Snap Theatre Company in Bishops Stortford on June 5th/6th.
