Hertford Funday 2001
Around 5000 people turned out to this year's Hertford Funday, which took place in the Town Centre and Castle Grounds on Sunday 1st July 2001.
The Town Centre was closed to traffic to accomodate a funfair, live bands and stalls, whilst Hertford Castle hosted the arena events, including Scruff's Dog Show and a Redtail Falconry display.
The event replaced the annual carnival, and featured a walking parade instead of a motorised procession. The route took the parade along Maidenhead Street, past the White Hart, turning right into Market Street and then returning via Fore Street and Castle Street.
The parade featured "Mahogany", who won an award for Best Costume at last year's Notting Hill Carnival.
Other events included a Tug-o-war outside The White Hart pub and a Waiter's Race in Fore Street, organised by Café Rouge.
Scruff's Dog Show in the Castle Grounds featured prizes for the Waggiest Tail, Most Appealing Eyes and the Dog Most Like It's Owner!.
There was plenty of music throughout the afternoon with Richard Hale School Band playing in the Castle Grounds and local bands "Dark RTown" and "The Innocents" playing outside The White Hart pub in Market Sqaure and Café Rouge in Parliament Square.
