Interesting article in the Daily Mail about John Cooper going bust

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/news ... -bust.html

Dozens of people have been left out of pocket after purchasing upmarket Aga cookers in the run-up to Christmas, only to see the firm go bust.
John Cooper and Sons, an Aga specialist which had two branches in Chelmsford, Essex and Hertford, went into administration during the festive period.

Why, oh why, do people still persist in making big purchases without paying by credit card and getting protection?

There's such a track record of companies like this failing, which is terribly sad, but even worse when people lose out.

And all you need to do is make a partial £100 payment by credit card, and the whole lot will be protected. Which is exactly what we did when ordering a new kitchen recently.

Yes, the risk is small. But it's so easy to avoid.
