Now that demolition has actually started, can anyone say for certain what is happening about the bus station. I gather that the bus station will be retained but what about the interim period whilst demolition and new building is going on, probably several years.

The bus station is probably the least impacted part of the development. The main structure incorporating the car park will remain. This image below shows the new builds and the retained car park. The project is expected to be complete by 2020, although personally I wouldn't be surprised if work goes in to 2021.

Yes. They're only working on Phase 1 at the moment, which the the corner site (marked in purple on the map).

They may not even close the car park as there's no structural work taking place there and it will be needed for the hotel guests.

I’ve heard that there are financial issues with the redevelopment and so it’s now on hold. They are going to look to re-let the units for three years before attempting to start the works again. What this means for the pile of rubble where the hotel was going to be who knows. This is ridiculous and I’m outraged that we’ve been left with a mess of a town centre with hardly any retailers. The ineptitude of people running Hertford is quite staggering. They keep building more and more houses here, yet without the infrastructure to support them.

Anyone else heard more about this?

This is complete nonsense. There's so much idle gossip going around the town at the moment - from Bircherley Green (developer pulled out and selling up) to Aldi (pulled out) to Carriage Court (developer in difficulties and builders not paid).

The project is four months behind schedule whilst the developers (who are not the owners) seek planning permission for design changes. Meanwhile, work continues on site - including an archaeological team. Wrenbridge are under contract to deliver the hotel no later than 2020. The whole project will be finished by 2021.

That's a very bold statement for a construction project!
