Codek it was the Blackbirds for a long time before it became the Firkin - its one of the oldest pubs in town! Okay its a bit of a dump but the kids love it as its cheap and very accommodating of the great unwashed
; my fear is they are going to be driven out by the new owners offering craft beer at crazy prices and will have nowhere suitable to go. One of Hertford's strengths is that it can suit many tastes and in my opinion this will weaken the choices available. I have to add that I now go in there less than once a year - having been a regular in the 70s and early 80s - but Hertford needs its diversity.
