Did any of the rest of you try and support the 'Indie Shops' event across Hertford on saturday? Along with 3 sprogs, the wife and I ventured into town just after 10am as the two youngest wanted to complete the sticker challenge ( collecting 10 stickers from various shops across town). Despite the time and it being saturday, the first two shops were shut.... You have to wonder if these will be the shops that have 'closing down sale' postersin the window soon? Some of the other shops had stickers which were provided by the 'town centre manager' but most hadn't opened the envelope they were in and knew nothing of the activities such as Morris Dancing and some singers.
When i reflect on the 'event', i have the following concerns..
Are the two shut shops so successful they don't need the saturday morning shoppers?
What the hell does the Town Centre Manager do to justify their salary?
What can Hertford do to shake the traders into action?
Is what we want in Maidenhead Street /area outside Greggs on a saturday, a loud mouthed 'trader' selling chinese batteries, near it's sell by date fruitcake, cheap screwdrivers and the like?
