Bye bye First Capital Connect

Post by JohnSmith » Fri 23 May, 2014 11:52 am

First Capital Connect have been unsuccessful with their bid for the Thameslink Great Northern franchise.

From September I will be directing my commuter dissatisfaction at Govia.

The Department for Transport have intimated that there will be 150 new carriages on the Hertford Loop from 2018 with services running into Moorgate later than 8.15pm.

Good news if they're right.

Govia's website confirms the new trains:

Hmm... No mention of an expansion of stations using Oyster.

We'll good riddance to FCC - they made some amazing claims about high quality customer service in their bid document - obviously their senior management never use their trains! Let's hope this new company live up to their claims - some new clean trains would be good for starters. Be interesting to see how much fairs will rise at the end of the year.

Just when they've "refurbished" Hertford North station in FCC branding ... Is Govia going to remove another 12" from the passageway when they arrive?

Err lets be clear about this, the new trains were coming whether it was govia or not. they would have come if FCC had retained the lease.

I don't think they were. I asked FCC many times in the last year about new trains and they always said that there were no plans. Even at one of the meet the manager events I asked and the manager who represented the Hertford Loop on FCC's board said she used them on a daily basis and had tried to put forward a case to have them replaced but was met with a stone cold refusal.

I thought these guys were off? Not sure how much it will affect those of you that use HFN but just saw this in the local paper and passing it on.

I would suspect that this was agreed and budgeted before the franchise decision.

Govia take over the new franchise on 18 September.
