River lea flood warning
Surprised no-one's updated this.
Just walked back from Hertford North along Beane Road.
The Beane has completely left the watercourse and has flooded the entire natural flood plain.
Sadly it looks like it has now overspilled at the Port Vale end and is flooding the flood plain that used to be there but is now houses....

Re: River lea flood warning
Can anyone let me know if it is possible to get up Port Hill via town?
Apparently Beane Road has completely flooded and its not possible to walk along/up Nelson St, Byde St. Would quiet like to make it home tonight keeping my feet dry.

Re: River lea flood warning
Apologies for not posting sooner, have only just been approved as a journo on the new site.
Someone was complaining about the flood phone calls earlier. The Flood Alerts do not trigger a call, only the Flood Warnings do. These are triggered when your particular river of interest breaches a certain level.
Mine is the Lea which came right up to my back door this morning. I was tracking the Lea at WaterHall and saw it had comfortably beaten the all time record at 7am today (1.03m), at which time the recordings went into 'Unreliable' mode as I assume they overwhelmed the meter. Look at the gap between 7am and noon.

As for the poor Beane, it just went on and on, came close to matching the all time high at 1.52m if I recall. Thankfully it appears to have topped out now and is slowly ebbing away but with tonight's 'extras' imminent, I'm hoping this unwanted refill passes through very quickly.

The annoying thing is I just did not see this one coming. All the talk had been of the Fri/Sat storm. When I clocked off last night, the Lea was still inside the Typical Range. Then we had an absolute deluge for a couple of hours and Hertford became Waterworld.
For those who have been affected, my thoughts are with you and I hope that your lives get back to normal as soon as possible.
Regrettably, the Weather folks on various news programs tonight all said that winter storms will be the norm for the next few weeks at least. Let's hope there's enough of an interlude between each event for sufficient water to drain away to prevent more calamity.
Not that it can make much difference given the enormity of what's assailed the UK, but it's rather ironic that the current environment minister is a committed climate change denier. That's all we need, an 'Intelligent Design', the earth is (choose one of 4,5,6,7,8,9 or 10) thousand years old, and probably flat to boot - F' Wit. Doubtless the sun revolves around the earth as well. I'm not rabidly pro climate change, just follow the overwhelming science and scientific opinion.. think it's now in the high 90% general agreement that were are in some measure complicit in what's happening.

Where is WaterHall?
You need to be very specific if you are ITK (In the know) which will probably become ITS soon.
