Having read the job description it seems that it a new position. It is as close as can be to the position of a Town Centre Manager. I was actually employed by the Hertford Town Partnership and sometimes self employed and oft times contracted out to the Town Council but never really had a concrete job description. The Hertford Town Partnership received its grant funding from East Herts Council against a Service Level Agreement which covered many of the roles now specified. The most it ever said was 'to promote the social and economic welfare of the town'. After that we sort of all rubbed along, doing our best and sometimes disagreeing over the best way forward. A rough sort of democracy.
This is a good move as the town really needs someone who is specifically charged with looking after its traders, residents and visitors and anybody else who has an interest in the town. I don't know where that leaves the position of Town Centre Liaison Manager which is Melvyn Conn (?). I don't ever remember working as little as 29 hours a week but remember the nights and weekends well. I also remember the warmth and friendship of the traders generally and everybody else who wanted to help, volunteer or otherwise promote the town. It is a great job; you need a sense of humour, a thick skin, plenty of shoe leather and it makes your hair go grey and your best friends are usually the publicans
. Other than that someone in town who knows the town should go for it.
