The owners of The Blackbirds are planning on changing the name to The Stag and installing new illuminated signage.

It was named The Fledgling & Firkin after it was bough by Firkin. It changed back to the Blackbirds when it changed hands again.

The Stag is a dreadful name IMHO.

What a terrible name, it sounds so rough and common.. sorry sounding snobby now but of all the wonderful re-branding names you could have that reminds me of what Deco used to be called a few years back and that was rough then (and might still be now !!!!) awful

blimey you people are crazy. It's not been the blackbirds for long, and "stag" is much more in keeping with Hertford as a name of a local pub!

All change is bad eh?

Codek it was the Blackbirds for a long time before it became the Firkin - its one of the oldest pubs in town! Okay its a bit of a dump but the kids love it as its cheap and very accommodating of the great unwashed  ; my fear is they are going to be driven out by the new owners offering craft beer at crazy prices and will have nowhere suitable to go. One of Hertford's strengths is that it can suit many tastes and in my opinion this will weaken the choices available. I have to add that I now go in there less than once a year - having been a regular in the 70s and early 80s - but Hertford needs its diversity.

There was a job advertised recently that may give some more clues to its new identity https://www.gumtree.com/p/bar-jobs/gene ... 1150379423

Fair enough golden I agree that the pubs should cater for a diverse range. We don't really need another of what they're suggesting but as usual the market will show out the truth of it.

I wouldn't begrudge a craft beer pub though as we only have 2 and a half right now!

Will renaming it The Stag make the beer a little deer, too?

Interesting as that signage looks exactly like the the signage for the Stag pub and restaurant in Enfield Town. Have the owns sold to the owners of that one?
