Many shopping/retail centres are ultimately owned by pension funds (who have to invest in something other than the stock market if they're not going put all their eggs in one basket). Interstingly parts of the Edinburgh Way retail "ribbon" in Harlow appear to belong to Crown Estates although I've not seen HRH in Subway or Costa recently.rogerstone wrote:It's not Diagio as such but Diageo Pension Fund Limited.MultiDad wrote:I'm trying to work out why Diageo ( a big drinks co) is owner of Bircheley Green? have I got this wrong? Re: Waitrose rumour
Lots of large companies use their cash funds to finance other ventures. Equipment financing is very popular for this.MultiDad wrote:I'm trying to work out why Diageo ( a big drinks co) is owner of Bircheley Green? have I got this wrong? I'm sure the Hertford Illuminati will be able to answer..
Re: Waitrose rumour
I prefer to look at it from a different angle and invest some of my pension fund in Diageo - Guinness anyone??
Re: Waitrose rumour
It might also be worth bearing in mind that the Bircherley Green estate includes shops fronting Railway Street - from Cactus to Lloyds Bank and the premises above.
Re: Waitrose rumour
Anyone for Aldi to replace Waitrose?
Re: Waitrose rumour
I noticed yesterday that Cactus were having a "closing down sale".Steve wrote:It might also be worth bearing in mind that the Bircherley Green estate includes shops fronting Railway Street - from Cactus to Lloyds Bank and the premises above.
Re: Waitrose rumour
I understand that Waitrose are canvassing customers today as to their views if the store in Hertford was to close....
Will take a wander down later and give my opinion.

So anyway, I was right then. Not complete twaddle!
Re: Waitrose Moving to Van Hage
Not that it makes a whole heap of difference, given they have now gone. Didn't shop there regularly but I do miss it!
