Hi All,

After doing a butchery session at The Ginger Pig in Marylebone on Friday, I just wondered if there were any 'proper' butchers around Hertford that don't keep meat in freezers and use Dry-aged beef, will trim fat and chine a rib joint for example?

Don't know the details you are asking but I would have thought the most likely would be the butcher in Sele Farm or the farm shops at Foxholes and Bridget B's at the farm on the Watton at stone road and also recently taken over the shop in the village.

The butchers on Sele Farm seem very knowledgable and they have queues out the door despite being a few doors away from a Co op selling meat as well.

I have never been disappointed when buying from them (Picketts)

Bridget B's is the best I have found. They cut everything pretty much as you ask for it straight from full carcasses, nothing shrinkwrapped or anything. The beef is their own so you can say hello to the cows, the pigs are from I believe Suffolk. Also, prices compare favourably with supermarkets for something of far better quality.

The only downside is they tend to run out on a Saturday so best is to go early or call up in advance and place an order.

Robinsons on the 100 acre estate in Hoddesdon is also excellent.

I usually go up to Fox Holes (and end up stocking up on pies and pastries too, which is a bonus).
