Am I right in thinking that many (if not all) the ticket machines in Hertford produce a ticket and a "voucher" that can be used to redeem parking fees in "participating" establishments. I don't think anyone does "participate" at present (I asked in the doctor's' surgery once but got no joy ;) ). Perhaps the many competing restaurants should consider offering to refund the £1 parking fee if you go to them in the evening.

Hi all,

PLEEEASE respond to this consultation if you think the parking charges are wrong - as most people seem to. The council say they haven't had a huge response so far but everyone I've spoken to over the last couple of months has been disgusted by the idea.

There's a simple form on http://www.eastherts.gov.uk/ehparkingchanges" target="_blank, or you can sign my petition against the charges at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/fairparkingforall" target="_blank.
The only downside is for in-town residents, but if you choose to live within a city/town centre in a place without dedicated parking then it is always going to be an issue and is surely something that one takes into account when choosing to live in the centre (as I have done previously).
Yes Robbo it is a nightmare for in-town residents, as people like me have bought properties with the knowledge that we would be able to park for free overnight in Gascoyne Way car park, but now these proposals have come in without any thought for us. The annoying thing is most residents would be happy to pay for permits if the council would issue them (as they do in other Hertford car parks) but they have so far refused.

TOWN CENTRE RESIDENTS - please message me if you want to see residents' permits introduced in the car parks and I'll send you a joint statement to sign, which I'm submitting as part of the consultation.

Many thanks,

Laura

Hi all,

Just to let you know it's the LAST DAY of the East Herts parking consultation so please submit your response before midnight tonight if you want your opinion counted.

You can either respond to the council online at http://www.eastherts.gov.uk/ehparkingchanges or you can sign my petition opposing the evening car park charges at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/fairparkingforall.

Please make your voice heard before it's too late!

Thanks,

Laura

Just received confirmation that the free 30 minutes is to be implemented but the evening charge is not.

Anyone else received any thing regarding this?

Yes, I know those that commented will get the response but it seems awfully quiet so wondered if anyone else had anything to add.

I didn't think I was special.

Hi all,

The decision was made at a council meeting back on 5th August and they put this news story on their website afterwards: http://www.eastherts.gov.uk/index.jsp?articleid=29965" target="_blank

'Free parking giveaway' - sounds like great news BUT they said in the meeting that they do think the council has a 'moral obligation' to continue looking into evening charges and this will form part of an ongoing parking review which will look into things like pay on exit and possibly residents' permits (although this hasn't been confirmed). Maybe this is why they're not shouting too loudly about it..

Here's a link to the webcast of the meeting in case anyone's interested: http://www.eastherts.public-i.tv/core/p ... ive/127142" target="_blank

Thanks so much to everyone who signed my petition against the evening charges. I'm sure it made all the difference to their decision :-)

Well, it's good that local opinion was listened to on this occasion.
