Nice and warm.

Post by Ewoowar » Fri 03 Oct, 2014 6:34 pm

Yesterday I noticed that there is a heater in Hertford North station. It appears to be the only one, though I may be wrong.

It is situated right next to where the tea drinking ticket staff stand by the barriers as they watch the queues form in front of the single counter every morning.

This morning one of the tea drinkers was leaning against it (it is in a cage against the wall). I'm so pleased that consideration is given to ensure this area of the station is heated.

When you're standing around doing nothing all day you need a bit of warmth :)

I smiled when I first read these comments as I rarely use the station but I did this morning and there they were, 3 of them, chatting away and having a right old laugh, sipping their tea and basically getting paid to do nothing. There must be a reason they are there, seriously, what is it? Security? If someone hove into view with wires sticking out of a rucksack which they then abandoned by the ticket machines, would these jovial rail company employees leap into action? Would they put their tea down first? They are obviously supposed to be there - does anyone know why?

not really sure about sleepy hertford north, but i did report an abandoned bag at holborn tube a few months ago and they did leap into action, they did say though it was probably just someone who had a lot of bags to move. (line goes on to heathrow so they probably see it a lot)

I think that the three stooges are there to show how in a bygone age the railways used to be run to move people from one place to another but now they're only for making money for providing a poor service...

I think you may have missed the significance of this specific photo, particularly the film it came from.

UK version of the three stooges in Oh Mr Porter.

I believe Mr Porter didn't make it onto the shortlist for station manager at Hertford North due to his enthusiasm for change.

For anyone who is not aware, one of the shooting locations for Oh Mr Porter was Hertford North.
