The Airports Commission has shortlisted explansion at Heathrow and Gatwick in it's interim report published today.

Stop Stansted Expansion has release the following statement.

The earliest a second runway might now be considered is 2050.

So the nimbys when they have nothing to be nimby about until 2050 become niabyes instead!

The way planning works in this country, we will all be long dead and buried before any airport in the southeast gets a new runway, regardless of recommendations. By that time, they won't be needed anyway as any decent size airline will have moved all their operations to the continent where they do runways properly. I don't think Holland is bigger than the UK but Schipol have 5 or so runways.
