Re: Carnival Cancelled
And very sad for all of those that had put the effort in to join the procession; I'm sure many were looking forward to it.

Re: Should Parking Be Subsidised?
Steve we're talking about a very localised issue here and my belief is that the local councils should work within their powers to support local economies and try to boost local businesses by subsidy if necessary. I've noted before that Bishops Stortford seems to have councillors in powerful position...

Re: George Ezra
Steve I've heard from my daughter that he's back in Hertford and is known to frequent a few of the pubs in town with his friends. Apparently a very well grounded and nice guy.

Re: Should Parking Be Subsidised?
I don't agree that there is a world of difference - if you choose not to have children why should you pay for schools or maternity services on the NHS? As someone who keeps themselves reasonably fit and healthy why should I pay for an ambulance to attend a beer swilling, fag smoking, couch potato wh...

Re: Should Parking Be Subsidised?
Fire, ambulance, police, coastguard, NHS, post, schools, universities, street lighting, roads, etc. etc. You are very naive if you think that you pay for all the 'services' you receive. If I didn't go out at night should I save my proportion of costs that go on nighttime policing and resultant NHS c...

Re: Proposed parking fee changes at council car parks.
Just to clarify I believe that double yellows apply at all times but you should check the plate to confirm what times the single yellow lines operate as they're not all the same.

Re: Should Parking Be Subsidised
I live not far from the Old London Road car park and regularly walk past - I have mentioned this on numerous occasions!! It annoys me to see a half empty (all empty at weekends) car park when there are people parking on the grass verges down my road. The situation is only going to get worse with the...

Re: Market Street
I'm feeling a bit persecuted here being a BMW driver and a cyclist  As we're going way off track on this thread maybe I can comment on the so called 'professional' driver from Matthews haulage who tried to overtake me on my bike in Mill Road yesterday opposite the old Speedy Hire then run me ...

Re: Market Street
Darcy I'm fairly certain that there has always been double yellows here - although as you point out it would be foolish in the extreme to park in a road that narrow. I've seen quite a few in the loading bay with parking tickets before - often catches people out on weekend nights and probably will ev...

Re: Women's Cycling Tour
Great turnout in Hertford yesterday and reflected in some good coverage in the highlights show; I opted for the Port Hill viewpoint and it was very busy. Some of the kids near me were also very impressed with the motorcycle team accompanying the race to enforce the 'rolling roadblock'. The TV showed...
