Re: Large White vans in New Street Bengeo
A Parliamentary briefing document doesn't replace an Act of Parliament. Check out S. 137 of the Highways Act 1980 or for further consideration S.148(c) of the same act. The fact is that the legislation does exist, but neither the Police or local authorities can be bothered to enforce it. However, if...

Re: Large White vans in New Street Bengeo
Ok, you dismiss an Act of Parliament as "Rubbish". Even the link you have posted includes the offence as defined under S.137 of the Highways Act 1980. If that's not enough check out S.148(c) of the same Act. If you're happy with people depositing all sorts of junk on the highway, I have a propositio...

Ok, you wish to dismiss the Highways Act 1980 as "Rubbish". In addition to S137, check out S148(c) "If without lawful authority or excuse a person deposits any thing whatsoever on a highway to the interuption of any user of the highway he is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine....." Whether or...

Re: Large White vans in New Street Bengeo
Technically all vehicles parked on a highway are causing an obstruction. The common law definition of a Highway states that 'A highway is a way over which there exists a public right of passage, that is to say a right for all Her Majesty's subjects at all seasons of the year freely and at their will...

Re: Large White vans in New Street Bengeo
The Police and Hertfordshire Highways have powers to deal with these vans and associated junk under S.137 of the Highways Act 1980 "S137 Penalty for wilful obstruction.E+W.(1)If a person, without lawful authority or excuse, in any way wilfully obstructs the free passage along a highway he is guilty ...

Re: Sofa Disposal
I know that East Herts Council will collect and dispose of certain items (for a fee) but not sure if sofas are amongst them. Worth giving them a call. Or put in the front garden with a price tag on it. Someone will nick it.

I would think that Peter Wentworth would be your man, and, although I don't have contact details I am sure someone on here will have them.

" I don't need to google it, I really do not need to be patronised about it. You made a sweeping statement "Well, possibly when it's smothered in batter, deep fried & served with a mountain of chips" and I refuted that is junk food. I can positively state without the need for google that not all bat...

Re: Maidenhead St updates
"since when was chicken junk food?????????" Well, possibly when it's smothered in batter, deep fried & served with a mountain of chips? Define junk food. Batter is a natural product containing flour, water and salt (and nothing else), the deep frying method can leave it with less fat per portion th...
