Re: The Hertford Club

The Sunday night open mic stopped last year. That just shows you what I know but as Golden says there are posters on the entrance and I think there is some sort of open event this Wednesday; open to 'members, guests and visitors'. Toady, as for fees. I think the annual fee for Associate membership ...

Re: The Hertford Club

I could be quite wrong on this but Sunday night was/is an open music night for members. guests and general public. I know a few people who regularly attend on Sundays who are not members and have no intention of being so. Tomorrow being Sunday might be worth a visit. It is a lovely old fifteenth cen...

Bob Ash

My wife served Mrs Ash today who told her that Bob Ash passed away about ten days ago. Bob worked for Illotts for may years in the upstairs hardware department and then set up Hertford Pet Supplies in Fore Street. I knew he had been ill and the arrival of Pets 4 U had not helped the business. He see...

Re: the 'Carnival'

A few remarks regarding the above. In 1912 or thereabouts the then Lord Salisbury gifted the grounds of Hertford Castle to the Corporation for the enjoyment of the people of Hertford. You cannot charge people for community events (which may not cover the open air cinema) but you can ask for a volunt...

And coming in at Number 5 ...

Hertford is number five on the Daily Telegraph Top Ten (Affordable) Towns for Londoners to move out to. Not too sure about the theatre though. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/property/11687349/The-top-10-new-supertowns-for-commuters.html No picture but nice shot of the gazebos in Ware - our surve...

Re: Another Italian deli cafe

Implementation of that strategy everywhere means we would not have Hatton Garden or Saville Row etc. There is evidence that suggests that if you have a successful takeaway, someone else will open near you and also be successful. Think of China Town... There are 20 antique shops in Tetbury so I susp...

Re: Another Italian deli cafe

Here we go again. There is a thought in town that it is better to have a shop filled than being empty. I have no objection to cafes, restaurants, bars, pubs, sandwich bars etc - we all have to eat and drink. There comes a time when we reach a point - do we really need another one? Many years ago Cll...

Re: Colin Sykes.

I think you are playing the wag with us Steve. Colin Sykes jewellers of Bircherley Green has been trading in Hertford since 1980. That's 35 years. One of Hertford's longest traders. He used to have premises in Maidenhead Street where once was Artico but where you can now milk a cow. I spoke to him a...

Re: Heritage Country Buses...

Sums up all that is wrong with Hertford now. When we organised the first new look Fun Day in 2001 it was due to be held on the third Sunday of June but when we realised that the bus rally was to be run on the first Sunday we quickly re-organised things and brought Fun Day forward. A moment of brilli...
