I find it quite interesting that the cottage in the middle has a gas supply, but not electricity. Curious priorities there!
but imagine what that must be worth.. ( It seems to be semi-commercial though, is it effectively used as a site office? )

More importantly, on the day they were canvassing opinion on how better to fund the park going forward, and some of the options included turning bits of the park into residential estate. Now there's something worth being concerned about.

As a rider I’m used to following bridal path markers – but if you parked at Thieves Lane car park as we did, there was nothing to even tell you where to find the first one.

I’ve since returned and, armed with the info from this site plus the better signage now, found it easily. It’s well worth it, a beautiful landscape.

They have also added a map to the website now.. especially useful for those unable to follow way markers.
How do you follow something that doesn't point anywhere?

Also park authorities is an ambiguous term. Be interesting to know if Lafarge did the signage or the friends. Lafarge are supposed to be staffing the site to some degree but who knows if they do.

It also appears that there are leaflets in the box describing the trail and a map with the route. On Sunday there was nothing to indicate they were in there.

This the view of the field from the gate by the post. No sign of a path.

... unless you line up with the mown path that has since regrown! Then you can just about pick it out.

There IS a clear path it has been mown in!
Not on the [first] sheep field there isn't.

Is I said, a post with a picture of an oak leaf is no help if there are no direction indicators. It just tells you where you are, not where to go. You can take one of five different paths from that marker.

I'm sure there will be more up at thieves lane soon however. But no doubt waiting on the ever slow drip feed of pennies from Lafarge.

I found it straight away - there's plenty of signs, the trick is you have to get to the starting point of the trail first
There's a post in the ground with a picture of an oak leaf on it. That's not very helpful. It doesn't tell you which direction to go in. The sheep field has no visible path. Like I say - I wasn't the other one who couldn't find it. It's all very well if you know the trail starts at Riverside House, but how would you know this to start with? Throughout the walk there are no information boards - just plaques that say "information coming soon". These should have been in place before the trail was opened. There should also current trail maps at the car parks. I've emailed my concerns to both The Park and Friends of Panshanger Park.

There also needs to be more information and maps at the Thieves Lane car park.

And where's the visitor centre promised 30 years ago?

Gotta say the park is stunning. I'll say it again hertford is extremely lucky to have such a world class example of an english landscape garden on its doorstep and public too.

I'd like to see a more circular walk so you don't have to enter and exit the trail at the same point (if that makes sense! - there's a 300m track through the sheep field you have to go in and out of)
