I note the suggestion of Just for Macs in Hatfield and phoned them yesterday. Unfortunately, they don't really seem to do call outs (sharp intake of breath… "it'll cost a fortune", he said) and I'd prefer to have someone visit me to do the work and to look at various networking issues.

I've heard of a few "one-man-bands" who will visit your home and fix PCs, but I'm struggling with someone to help with a Mac.

I would imagine a fan swap is also quite easy. Try http://www.macupgrades.co.uk (Cambridge) who are good for online spares and advice
